Preliminary data released by the National Bureau of Statistics of Italy on February 1st showed that in December 2020, the number of employees in Italy was close to 22.84 million, a decrease of 444,000 compared with December 2019. Among them, the number of employed employees decreased by 235,000 and the number of freelance jobs decreased. 209,000, with the exception of people over 50, the number of employed persons in all age groups has decreased to varying degrees, and women’s employment has been particularly affected.

  The data also shows that after four consecutive months of decline, the unemployment rate in Italy rebounded to 9% in December 2020, with the total number of unemployed close to 2.26 million, of which the youth unemployment rate reached 29.7%.
