Colombian ship collision death toll rises to 14

  The Colombian Navy confirmed on February 1 that two passenger ships carrying a total of 50 passengers collided in the waters of Nariño Province on January 30. The death toll so far rose to 14, including 7 minors. 36 others

  The search and rescue work has basically ended, and the cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Preliminary investigations revealed that when the accident occurred, the sea area involved was relatively windy and the highest wave height was about 2 meters. The two vessels involved in the accident were of wooden structures.

The naval officers and soldiers involved in the rescue stated that all passengers were not wearing life jackets, which means that the accident vessel violated the operating regulations of passenger commercial ships to provide necessary life-saving equipment.

Relevant departments will further investigate the registration information of the ship involved to confirm whether it has legal operating qualifications.
