In an attractive game with numerous scoring chances on both sides, Julian Schmidt-Günther (44th minute) gave the Saarlanders the lead.
After an assist by Nicklas Shipnoski, the visiting striker shot the ball into the goal from close range.
Jonas Nietfeld (73) scored the equalizer for the hosts.
Saarbrücken trainer Lukas Kwasniok had to do without Steven Zellner, Sebastian Bösel, Mario Müller and Manuel Zeitz.
Captain Zeitz not only had to pause in Halle because of a red card, but his team will also be missing in the next two third division games.
