Berlin (dpa) - The “Anglicism of the Year” will be announced today (9:00 a.m.).

A jury around the linguist Anatol Stefanowitsch from the Free University of Berlin has now chosen for the eleventh time the expressly “positive contribution of English to the development of German vocabulary”.

The Anglicisms chosen so far included “Influencer”, “Fake News” and “... for future”.

In particular, advertising, business and politics can hardly do without Anglicisms, i.e. terms from English and American.

Some see it as an enrichment of the mother tongue, others see it as a threat.
