Wellington (AP) - One day after winning the Grand Prix at the tournament in Wellington, America, the dressage horse Rebroff of the German top rider Frederic Wandres died unexpectedly.

The twelve-year-old gelding collapsed in his box on Saturday.

"Yesterday he was the winner ... today he is no longer with us," wrote Wandres on Facebook.

The cause of the sudden death was initially unknown.

An autopsy was ordered.

Wandres assumes an aortic avulsion.

The 33-year-old from Hagen am Teutoburger Wald has been part of the Olympic squad of the German Equestrian Association FN with his top horse Duke of Britain since last October.
