Russian President Vladimir Putin has secretly had a giant palace built on the Black Sea in southern Russia.

The palace has cost 100 billion rubles, equivalent to over 11 billion kronor, according to Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny

Roadblocks and guards

The so-called palace is closely monitored.

- There are roadblocks at all access roads and the area is fenced and patrolled by guards with dogs, says Bert Sundström, SVT's correspondent in Russia.

Alleged to be hotel

SVT's team had to content themselves with filming from a distance and talking to Russians in the nearby town of Gelendzhik.

Things went better then for the TV channel Russia1, which is owned by the Russian state.

The channel's reporter was given a tour of the area by a person who was said to be "involved" in the construction.

Through the news agency AP, SVT can publish parts of that report.

The report claims that it is simply a hotel, which is not yet ready.

But who owns the hotel is not clear.

Vladimir Putin's close friend, businessman and billionaire Arkady Rotenberg, says he owns the palace.
