January 31, 2021 Exxon and Chevron CEOs discussed a potential merger between the two oil giants last year.

The Wall Street Journal reports it citing some sources, according to which any wedding would give rise to one of the largest corporate mergers in history.

Exxon and Chevron numbers one, Darren Woods and Mike Wirth respectively, spoke shortly after the start of the pandemic, which decimated oil demand putting the two giants under financial pressure.

The discussion was preliminary and negotiations are not currently underway.
