Cottbus (dpa / bb) - After an attack by football fans on the police in Cottbus, the state security is now investigating.

On Sunday night, several people dressed in black gathered around the stadium of the FC Energie Cottbus football club and were checked.

Some personal details had been recorded, said a police spokesman on Sunday.

Later, smaller groups formed a crowd of around 100 in an adjoining park.

According to the police, the background to the gathering was the football club's 55th birthday.

Pyrotechnics were ignited from within the group, banners were unfurled and fan songs were chanted.

Later, numerous men surrounded a police car occupied by officers, first threw snowballs at it and then tried to overturn the vehicle.

There was property damage of several hundred euros to the car.

The state security has started investigations into the violation of the peace.
