Cologne (dpa / lnw) - After a corona outbreak in a refugee accommodation with one of the highly contagious virus mutations, the city of Cologne is now monitoring the facility.

The city announced on Sunday that the area will be secured by the police.

The step is to control the quarantine and entry ban.

A virus mutation originating in Brazil or South Africa was found in 31 of the 41 residents who tested positive.

The South African variant is most likely.

108 residents live in the property.

There are eleven proofs of the South African variant among the employees.

For five other employees who tested positive, the variant analysis is still pending.

The Cologne health department head Harald Rau called the detection of the infections "a clear alarm signal".
