The Italian Sofia Goggia, Olympic downhill champion in 2018, was injured Sunday in Garmisch (Germany) and must forfeit the Alpine Skiing Worlds in Cortina d'Ampezzo (February 8-21) of which she was one big stars expected, announced his federation.

Bad luck, Sofia Goggia (28) fell on Sunday in Garmisch while going back down the track after the announcement of the postponement to Monday of the super-G planned in the German station, due to the fog.

The Italian suffers from a "fracture of the lateral tibial plateau of the right knee" and "will not take part in the Cortina Worlds", wrote the Italian Ski Federation in a statement, after exams taken in Milan.

It's a huge blow for the Italian team as Sofia Goggia had returned to an exceptional level this season and had won in four of the five World Cup downhills contested so far.

The Bergamo champion, a skier with a fiery temperament and spectacular style, was favorite to triumph at home on the Cortina descent, one of the classics of the women's season.
