Berlin (dpa) - According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the health authorities in Germany reported 11,192 new corona infections within one day on Sunday morning.

Exactly one week ago there were 12,257 new infections reported.

On Sunday, the number of cases reported by the RKI is usually lower, partly because fewer tests are carried out on the weekend.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the RKI has counted 2,216,363 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany.

The number of reported deaths related to the corona virus rose by 399 to a total of 56,945.

(Status: January 31, 00.00 a.m.).

A week ago on Sunday, 349 cases had been reported in which patients had died related to the virus.

The total number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 56,945.

The high of 1,244 new deaths was reached on January 14th.

Among the new infections registered within 24 hours, the highest value was reported on December 18, at 33,777 - but this included 3500 late reports.

The nationwide seven-day R-value was 0.92 according to the RKI situation report on Saturday (previous day 0.92).

This means that 100 infected people theoretically infect 92 more people.

The value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago.

If it is below 1 for a long time, the infection process subsides.
