Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) - Almost 30 years after a then 27-year-old disappeared without a trace, the trial of his two alleged murderers will begin in the Saarbrücken regional court next Monday (9 a.m.)

To date, the victim's body has not appeared.

The police's renewed search in a forest near Wadgassen (Saarlouis district) was also unsuccessful a few days before the start of the trial.

Since last September, the investigators have been looking for the remains of the man from Völklingen, who has been missing since September 1991.

According to the public prosecutor, the investigation “after information from the personal environment of one of the accused” got underway.

The focus was on three men who are suspected of having viciously killed and buried their victim.

They are said to have lured him into a forest near Wadgassen in September 1991 to deal with an alleged drug deal and murdered him there.

To do this, they would have hit the unsuspecting and defenseless victim with, among other things, a massive stick prepared for this purpose and also kicked them.

Then they are said to have buried the body in a prepared pit.

The background to the crime is said to have been that one of the defendants was previously beaten up by the later victim and felt himself threatened with death.

One of the three Germans who came into custody in early August 2020 was found dead in his cell on January 5.

The authorities assumed a suicide.

The trial of the other two defendants (55 and 56 years old) will start on Monday (February 1, 9 a.m.) for collective murder.

According to a court spokeswoman, seven days of the trial are planned.

A judgment could therefore fall on April 15th.

At the beginning of the trial on Monday, only the reading of the indictment is planned.
