In his first meeting with the new ministers yesterday, Friday, Tunisian Prime Minister Hicham El Mechichi said that the government is not concerned with any dispute with any party, and that its main goal is the economic, social and health situation, not to score political points.

He added that the current period is one of the most difficult periods in the history of Tunisia, due to the economic, social, health and political difficulties, saying that Tunisia is living what he described as practices that it had not witnessed before.

On January 16, the Tunisian prime minister announced a cabinet reshuffle that included 11 portfolios (out of 25).

Al-Mushashi called on the new ministers to double action and make the necessary efforts to implement the government's policy and implement its plans and programs.

He also called on them to embark on the urgent reforms that are awaiting the citizens, away from political disputes and partisan conflicts.

Authentication and procedures

On Tuesday, the Tunisian parliament approved, by an absolute majority, the cabinet reshuffle in the Mechanically-appointed government, which included the ministries of interior, justice and health.

Meanwhile, Tunisian President Qais Said considered - on Monday - that the recent cabinet reshuffle did not respect the procedures stipulated in the constitution.

He added, during a security meeting, that some of the proposers in the ministerial reshuffle have issues or have conflict of interest files.

Although 4 days have passed since the new ministers gained the confidence of Parliament, they have not yet been called to take the constitutional oath before the President of the Republic.

And in early September 2020, an independent government headed by the Mechanically, won the confidence of Parliament with an absolute majority, succeeding the government of Ilyas Fakhfakh, consisting of 25 ministers, before it was followed by 3 dismissals of the ministers of interior, environment and culture for various reasons.

Tunisia is suffering from an economic crisis, exacerbated by the outbreak of the new Corona virus (Covid-19), as various regions of the country have been witnessing social protests, interspersed with clashes with security men, for days.
