Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - After ongoing criticism of health protection in schools for children with physical and mental disabilities, the teachers and employees of these facilities are vaccinated earlier.

"The vaccination sequence will change," announced the Baden-Württemberg Minister of Education, Susanne Eisenmann (CDU) on Friday.

The staff of the special education and counseling centers (SBBZ) and the corresponding school kindergartens are given preferential treatment in the state's vaccination strategy.

The employees looked after and cared for children and adolescents with a high or very high risk of a serious or fatal course of the disease after a corona infection, said Eisenmann.

"That's why they should be treated like nurses in facilities for the disabled or nursing homes when they are vaccinated."

So far, the risk assessment at the regular schools has been used as a basis for the staff at the SBBZ, which has been open since mid-January.

As a result, teachers and supervisors had drawn attention to the special circumstances at the facilities in a petition.

Among other things, they called for schools at SBBZ to be opened only if health protection was guaranteed.

"These children in particular need structure and foundations," Eisenmann defended the decision on Friday.

Last year there were major problems in this area, she said, referring to feedback from parents.

«There is no compulsory attendance.

And emergency care would have been permitted anyway. "
