Munich (AP) - For Bayern professional Thomas Müller, participation in the Olympic soccer tournament in Tokyo this summer was not a goal according to his own statements.

“The Olympics don't play a role in my planning.

I informed Stefan Kuntz about this a long time ago, ”said the 2014 world champion in the“ Bild ”newspaper (Friday).

It had previously been announced that the summer games in Tokyo would take place without the 31-year-old Bayern Munich attacker.

In contrast to the Dortmund defender Mats Hummels (32), who was also retired from the German national team by coach Joachim Löw in 2019, the ex-national player is not on the corresponding Olympic list of the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA).

Müller would have to be on this at the start of the year in order to be able to take part in the games in Tokyo (July 23 to August 8).

The coaches can appoint three players born before 1997 to the Olympic squad.
