Berlin (dpa / bb) - In the Berlin prisons, exactly 1076 cell phones were confiscated from prisoners last year.

That was 100 devices more than in 2019, as can be seen from the balance sheet that Justice Senator Dirk Behrendt (Greens) presented on Friday.

Most cell phones were confiscated from Plötzensee correctional facility in 2020, so there were 340. Detainees are not allowed to have private phones.

In the previous year, illegal drugs were discovered during controls.

Almost 6.8 kilograms of cannabis products were confiscated.

In 2019, the amount found was around 3.9 kilograms.

Around 28 grams of heroin were also seized in 2020.

(2019: just under 19 grams).

The greatest increase was found in tilidine finds.

While it was 65 grams in 2019, the amount rose to around 435 grams in 2020. According to this, drug detection dogs from customs and police also helped with the controls.

The animals were used 42 times.

Employees have been able to have themselves tested in the corona pandemic since May 2020.
