Aalen (dpa / lsw) - The writer Monika Helfer has been awarded the Schubart literature prize of the city of Aalen.

The 73-year-old Austrian received the 20,000 euro prize for her novel “Die Bagage”, as Mayor Thilo Rentschler (SPD) announced on Friday.

He and the jury are pleased to be able to bestow this literary award, one of the oldest in Baden-Württemberg, on behalf of the local council, said Rentschler.

The prize is to be presented on July 24th at the Kulturbahnhof in Aalen.

The Schubart Literature Prize has been awarded every two years since 1956.

Previous winners have included the writers Daniel Kehlmann (2019), Saša Stanišić (2017) and the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize winner Katja Petrowskaja in 2015.
