Würzburg (dpa / lby) - Thanks to Ridge Munsy, the Würzburg Kickers celebrated a great victory in the relegation battle of the 2nd Bundesliga.

The Lower Franconia won on Friday against promotion candidate Fortuna Düsseldorf 2-1 (1: 1).

After captain Rouwen Hennings scored the opening goal in Düsseldorf (25th minute), the devoted hosts hit back with two goals from Ridge Munsy (41st / 67th).

"The performance was very, very good," said match winner Munsy, who now has five goals this season after his first double for the Kickers.

"We really showed that we have character."

Coach Bernhard Trares, who was back on the line after his red card suspension, was allowed to take the success as an encouragement for the upcoming tasks against other top teams.

"We have now beaten Düsseldorf, we keep all games close," said the Kickers coach.

Fürth, Kiel, Hamburg and Bochum are the next tasks for the bottom of the table.

Düsseldorf was the stronger team and repeatedly dangerous in standards.

Thomas Pledl (9./20.) Twice had the lead for the relegated Bundesliga on the foot.

Hennings then did better after a Pledl corner kick and Kevin Danso's headed assist and finished with the seventh goal of the season.

Düsseldorf's Luka Krajnc wasn't missing much to make it 2-0 (41st) when he hit the crossbar.

The kickers punished that.

As if out of nowhere, the Würzburger equalized.

In the starting line-up debut, newcomer Martin Hasek served teammates Munsy and he made it 1-1.

Munsy struck for the second time after a counterattack in a tough game in difficult space conditions.

For Düsseldorf, which subsided after the break, it was the first defeat in nine games.
