Karlsruhe (dpa) - The German aces Gesa Krause and Christina Schwanitz experienced disappointments at the international athletics meeting in Karlsruhe.

At the start of the World Indoor Tour in the Europahalle, the model runner Krause over 1500 meters and the former shot put world champion Schwanitz only came in fifth on Friday evening.

The event took place as a pure TV event with an extensive hygiene concept, corona tests for all participants and without spectators and journalists.

For the 36th edition of the meeting with 130 athletes, the organizers had moved from the fair back to the Europahalle.

Krause did not have the hoped-for lively start to the Olympic year.

The two-time World Cup third over 3000 meters obstacle from the New Year's Eve Trier club was clearly behind her best time in 4: 15.38 minutes on the unfamiliar 1500 meter course.

“It's not a great time.

You need this routine, it was just missing, ”she said.

"The 4:15 shows that it is a very, very long way."

Katharina Trost from Munich gave a German victory in 4: 12.02 minutes.

Schwanitz from LV 90 Erzgebirge came five days after 19.11 meters in Chemnitz to only 18.27 meters.

The 35-year-old managed the feat of covering this distance three times.

The Portuguese winner Auriol Dongmo shone with the national record of 19.65 meters.
