January 29, 2021The man who wanted to "propose and not protest", as he himself once said, will be called to the most delicate of proposals: to convince Matteo Renzi and Giuseppe Conte to sit in the same government.

It is in fact the President of the Chamber, Roberto Fico, who received the exploratory mandate from the Quirinale to verify a government with the current majority.

Neapolitan, born in 1974, pentastellato of the very first hour, Fico will have for the second time the task of facilitating the formation of a government.

In April 2018, when President Mattarella asked him to explore the possibility of a Pd-M5S alliance, it went wrong.

It was Renzi who stopped him.

And who knows if, this time, Fico's almost phlegmatic calm won't be able to smooth out the edges, even temperamental ones, of the leaders of the majority.

Fico's debut in "explorations" dates back to the end of April 2018. Then Renzi was in the Pd.

Indeed, he was the leader of the Dems who had been defeated in the elections.

And, in an already difficult framework for the traditional idiosyncrasy of the M5S for the former premier, Renzi's stop, which arrived live on TV in the evening, caused any hypothesis to collapse.

But Fico is also a key figure within the five-star universe.

He is, in fact, one of the founders (in 2005) of the Meetups of the Friends of Beppe Grillo, when the M5S had not yet been established.

Reference point of the left wing of the Movement, allergic to the yellow-green government especially for its migration policies, Fico was for years one of the best known faces of the M5S, faithful to the founding values of the Movement.

When the "grillini" hit the news, the symbolic characters were Fico, Roberta Lombardi, Alessandro Di Battista and a few others.

Then came the so-called "second generation", the one led by Luigi Di Maio.

After a difficult period of coexistence - Fico was one of the 5 members of the Directory - the relations between the President of the Chamber and the then, very young, Vice President at Montecitorio broke down.

For months Fico was considered as the main reference of the Orthodox wing, that of the dissidents who, in his agenda, still survives (however standing fully on the side of the governists and Conte) in the current "Parole Guerriere".

In 2017, in Rimini, in the 5 Star Party called to crown Di Maio as political leader, the fracture was consummated.

Fico was among the speakers of the "congress" but, seeing that his speech promised to be very controversial with the leadership of the Movement, Grillo "beaten" him.

And Fico decided not to speak.

Only a face to face, first with Grillo and then with Di Maio avoided an even more thunderous breakup.

It seems like a century has passed since then.

The Fico of recent months is among the main "opponents" of Egypt for the Regeni case.

He is one of the exponents most in tune with Giuseppe Conte, supporter of an electoral container M5S-Pd, in line with Grillo's thesis of a "clear evolution" to which the Movement is called.

An evolution that Fico attempted to explain also in the last Italia 5 Stelle in attendance, in October 2019, when he spoke at length with activists in his Naples.

In Naples, Fico, he comes back when he can.

There he was born, graduated in Communication Sciences, took his first steps in politics as an elector of the Communist Refoundation.

Del Napoli is a huge fan.

There is also his partner, Yvonne De Rosa, photographer and mother of a daughter who, in the past, lived in London for a long time.

They met in 2013 and sometimes you can see them there in Posillipo, in one of the restaurants overlooking the sea.

In Naples, Fico, according to some rumors of the Roman palaces, would also have made a thought as future mayor, successor of Luigi De Magistris.

He has always denied.

Who knows, if he manages to get Conte and Renzi to agree, he won't change his mind.
