Berlin (dpa / bb) - The away game of the Füchse Berlin in the EHF European League at Sporting Lisbon has to be postponed again.

The meeting in the group stage scheduled for next Tuesday cannot take place due to the current developments in connection with the corona virus in Portugal, as the foxes announced on Friday.

“It's a shame that the game was canceled, we deliberately decided on this very early date in order to allow the competition calendar to be rectified.

So we get stuck at the cost of flights and hotel and find a delayed entry into the second half of the season, ”said Füchse managing director Bob Hanning.

Portugal is currently one of the high-risk areas in Europe with a seven-day incidence of over 800 corona cases.

In addition, the country “came on the special list because of the issue of mutation”, added Hanning.

After returning from Lisbon, the foxes therefore had to be quarantined.

"And we can't afford that," said sports director Stefan Kretzschmar.

The game was supposed to take place on November 17th, but had to be canceled due to corona cases in the own team.

So now follows the renewed cancellation.

Finding a new date in the tight schedule could be difficult.

“Of course we now have a few question marks about the European League, how we can manage it all.

But that is certainly not our problem at first, »said Kretzschmar.

The Füchse will now start the second half of the season on Sunday in a week (4 p.m. / Sky) in the home game in the Bundesliga against TUSEM Essen.

Then the team of coach Jaron Siewert will also have the three World Cup drivers Jacob Holm and Lasse Andersson (Denmark), as well as the Swede Valter Chrintz, who will fight for a place in the World Cup final on Sunday on Friday.
