The British virus variant has been detected in five other corona-positive employees at the Airbus plant in Hamburg.

The spokesman for the health authority, Martin Helfirch, said on Thursday evening to the German press agency.

According to scientists, the mutation, which is more infectious, has now been detected in seven Airbus employees.

Last weekend it became known that 21 employees at Airbus had tested positive for the corona virus.

Quarantine was ordered for around 500 employees.

A total of twelve infections with the British virus mutation have been found in Hamburg since December, including five people returning from travel.

In addition, according to the information, the South African variant was also detected in another returnee.

An infection with one of the virus mutations in Hamburg has not yet become known, said Helfrich.

Seven-day incidence remains below the 100 mark

On Friday, the Hamburg health authority reported 234 new infections with the novel corona virus.

That is twelve less than on Thursday and 96 less than on Friday a week ago.

The incidence, i.e. the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days, falls from 98.1 on Thursday to 93. A week ago, this value was 100.1.

The Robert Koch Institute came up with a different calculation basis for Hamburg on Friday - for example, based on the data status of 0 a.m., the institute calculates only 41 new infections on Friday - to an incidence value of 70.7.

According to the institute, this is currently the lowest value of all federal states.

For comparison: Berlin had an incidence of 84.6;

Hamburg's neighboring states Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony were 89.7 and 71.8 respectively.

Since the pandemic began, a total of 46,023 people in Hamburg have been infected with the new type of coronavirus, 38,500 of them are already cured.

As of Thursday, according to the Hamburg health authority, 419 people are being treated as inpatients due to corona infection, 85 need intensive medical care.

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the number of corona deaths rose by eight to 1037 (as of Thursday).
