January 29, 2021 Storm for the fascist greetings on the Day of Remembrance in the city council in Cogoleto, a town of 9 thousand people in the west of the Ligurian Riviera, about thirty kilometers from Genoa.

The complaint came from the center-left mayor, Paolo Bruzzone, who has been in office for just over 4 months.

In a post on social media he accused three councilors of the center-right minority of having made the Roman salute in the session on the eve, which had opened with a memory of the victims of the Shoah.

"They repeatedly performed the Roman salute", he accuses, speaking of "a serious episode".

Then he added: "I would like to strongly condemn this gesture belonging to the fascist symbolism, which evokes political values of intolerance, hatred and racial discrimination. Our Cogoleto has always firmly defended the anti-fascist values present in the Constitution and never, until today , the political debates had proved so extreme. I am therefore convinced that what happened yesterday cannot and should not go unnoticed ".

The three directly interested, however, are not there and say they are "indignant" for the reading: no Roman greeting, it was just a vote by show of hands, they argue: "The witch hunt has started again - says Francesco Biamonti (Lega) - Nobody can afford to tarnish my name, much less that of my party. For this reason I am filing a complaint against the majority councilors who say they have heard me say sentences that do not belong to me and against the mayor Paolo Bruzzone for the reconstruction fake that he made on his facebook profile ".

"I am indignant" says the second councilor involved in the 'scandal', Valeria Amedei.

"It is a shameful thing that I am accused of doing such a thing on Remembrance Day, I raised my hand to vote. It is a gesture that does not belong to me and does not represent me".

And even the third councilor, Mauro Siri, denies: "I have not even remotely thought of imitating the fascist salute. I lost my father in Russia, I have always hated the fascist and communist totalitarian regimes".

But the controversy immediately flared up.

"In addition to committing a crime, on Memorial Day they offended all the victims of the Nazi-Fascist criminal madness", says the president of Liguria Giovanni Toti.

Nicola Fratoianni from Leu talks about an affair with a "disgusting" character. CG the pearl of a "wicked act".

The secretary of the Democratic Party, Nicola Zingaretti, posting a photo of what happened on twitter, comments: "Here is an example of those with whom you can never govern".

While the Sansa Presidente, Linea Condivisa, M5S and PD groups announce a complaint.
