Ingolstadt / Wolfsburg (dpa / lni) - At the Volkswagen subsidiary Audi in Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm, almost 10,000 employees will be returning from short-time work in the next week.

Delivery bottlenecks for chips for the electronic control had forced the automaker to cut back production in the second half of January.

Now the two German plants are going back to regular shifts, said a spokeswoman on Friday.

In Györ, Hungary, and Mexico, too, production will gradually ramp up over the next two weeks.

At the VW headquarters in Wolfsburg, there are still four days of closure on certain lines in the following month.

These are February 1st, 2nd, 19th and 26th.

The Volkswagen plant in Emden, however, should resume normal operations on Monday (February 2nd).

The semiconductor shortage had recently hit numerous car manufacturers and suppliers.

With the producers of IT components, the demand from the automotive industry had increased for years, but then collapsed in the Corona crisis.

The chip manufacturers quickly found new customers, for example in entertainment electronics.
