Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - According to its party leader Andreas Stoch, the SPD has “no desire” to enter into a coalition with the CDU after the state elections.

"We will fight for a progressive government alliance in Baden-Württemberg - either with the Greens or with the Greens and the FDP," said Stoch in the podcast of the "Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung" (Friday).

He did not want to rule out an alliance with the CDU.

"It is normal in a democratic competition, especially in times when right-wing populists and right-wing extremists sit in parliaments, that nothing is excluded."

When asked about a possible German coalition made up of the CDU, SPD and FDP, Stoch said he could “not even imagine” that he would elect Susanne Eisenmann as CDU Prime Minister.

«Ms. Eisenmann once said: If you can be a Minister of Education, you can also be a Prime Minister.

Since Ms. Eisenmann has proven that she cannot be Minister of Education, she cannot be Prime Minister in the same logic. "

He believes the SPD will not get embarrassed even having to think about this question.

Minister of Education Eisenmann is the CDU's top candidate for the state elections in March.

She wants to replace the Green Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann.

Kretschmann ruled from 2011 to 2016 with a green-red coalition.

The CDU has been the junior partner of the Greens since 2016.

The opposition SPD has been around ten to twelve percent in the survey in Baden-Württemberg for a long time.
