Mannheim (dpa / lsw) - The Mannheim social scientist Annelies Blom pleads for positive incentives to comply with corona rules in the pandemic.

In order to maintain the acceptance of the mask requirement, homeschooling and, for example, exit restrictions in the population, a rethink is necessary.

"There are hardly any incentives for people to continue to take the rules seriously or to use special offers," criticized the professor of political science and data science.

One example of this is the Corona app.

In order to increase their acceptance, it would make sense to offer certain advantages for downloading the app.

For example, if users were credited with five euros, motivation could increase.

This is economically justifiable, especially since chains of infection can be traced more easily in this way.

At the beginning of the pandemic, Blom and her team had submitted daily assessments of the social impact of the pandemic with the “Mannheim Corona Study”.

"Based on our surveys, we can estimate how people react to curfews in the long term or what effects can be expected from the closure of schools or shops," said Blom.
