The Frankfurt Higher Regional Court has sentenced the main defendant Stephan Ernst to life imprisonment for the murder of the Kassel District President Walter Lübcke (CDU).

With a vigil, students from northern Hesse had called for harsher prosecution of right-wing extremist violence before the verdict was announced.

In front of the higher regional court in Frankfurt they held up portraits of the murdered CDU politician and a banner with the inscription “Democratic values ​​are immortal”.

The students come from the hometown of Lübckes, Wolfhagen, their school was renamed "Walter-Lübcke-Schule".
