Kiel (dpa / lno) - In view of the acute shortage of corona vaccines, SPD federal vice Serpil Midyatli has called for a European vaccine summit.

"All manufacturers and suppliers have to come to the table with the European Commission in order to clarify as quickly as possible who still has which capacities and who can quickly provide production facilities, logistics and other things," said Midyatli of the German press agency.

The “vaccine crisis” can only be overcome by working together.

"This hacking about contracts and who is to blame for what does not help anyone," said Midyatli.

She showed understanding for the manufacturers, who initially mainly supply countries that ordered vaccines many months before the EU and would also have paid a much higher price.

"You don't build additional production facilities overnight."

The sometimes very short-term announcements by some manufacturers are not evidence of great reliability.

"It is undoubtedly the biggest global crisis in decades," said Midyatli.

You welcome announcements by the Sanofi Group to provide capacities despite competition from other companies.

"It is the task of politics to keep those who make their resources available from financial damage, for example if their own products are delayed."
