Preparations for the operation have been going on for over seven years.

The operation itself took 18 hours and 15 surgeons worked in shifts in three operating rooms.

- In the preparations, we had divided up various elements during the operation and distributed who did what.

There are various natural parts into which the operation is divided: free preparation of structures, joining of bones, sewing tendons, vessels and nerves.

Anyone who was not busy with that particular moment could rest or eat, says one of the surgeons.

What was most critical during the operation?

- Without seeming too supportive, it was actually 18 hours of critical moments and that is why it was so important to be able to divide the work.

You can not omit any part if the operation is to succeed.

When the vessels were joined, we had a transient problem with blood flow and had to repeat that step.

"Fantastically exciting"

Is there anything special from the operation to tell?

- It was fantastically exciting when we let go of the blood flow in our hands and saw that they changed color and became "alive" and pink.

It was a moment that was really moving for everyone involved.

Hard to describe, but a feeling that we actually created a new life.
