Rostock (dpa / mv) - In downtown Rostock, retailers and their employees want to draw attention to the problems in their industry due to the consequences of the corona pandemic today (11.30 a.m.).

The dealers are increasingly desperate because of the lockdown and a lack of income, so far there has been no significant support, as the managing director of the Northern Trade Association in Rostock, Kay-Uwe Teetz, said.

The participants wanted to report to the public that there are potentially unemployed people here if the federal government does not help soon.

Therefore, personal contributions from those affected and a demonstration through the city are planned.

According to the industry association HDE, the retail trade affected by the lockdown suffered a drop in sales of 36 billion euros nationwide last year.

As of December 19, 2020, the entire German retail sector had received bridging aid amounting to just 90 million euros, the association criticized.

According to figures from the Federal Statistical Office, however, sales in the entire retail sector rose by 5.3 percent in 2020 despite all the adversities.

Online retail in particular was booming, and grocery stores, furniture and home improvement stores were also doing good business.

The textile trade, on the other hand, plunged deep into the crisis.
