Mainz (dpa / lrs) - After the occurrence of coronavirus mutations in neighboring Baden-Württemberg, the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of Education stopped the start of alternating classes at primary schools, which was planned for Monday.

The ministry announced on Thursday that the decision was made in coordination with experts from Mainz University Medical Center.

In amending the latest federal-state agreement to contain the corona pandemic, the state government decided to practice alternating lessons with learning at home and at school for the first four classes from next week.

The requirement to be present should remain suspended.

The Ministry of Education informed all schools and parents in writing on Thursday that the start of alternating classes would be postponed, the ministry said.

"I very much regret that we cannot start alternating classes at primary schools on Monday as planned," said Education Minister Stefanie Hubig (SPD).
