Frankfurt / Berlin (dpa) - After the verdict in the Lübcke murder case, CDU boss Armin Laschet called on people to decisively counter hatred and agitation in everyday life.

"Because the bad word is followed by a criminal act - that is one of the terrible lessons from the murder of our friend Walter Lübcke," Laschet wrote on Thursday in a post published on the CDU website.

"We are all responsible to work for peaceful cohesion - each and everyone in their own place."

The judgment of the Frankfurt Higher Regional Court is encouraging, but is also a warning.

"We won't let right-wing terrorists and intellectual arsonists destroy our country."

The verdict could not take the pain away from the Lübcke family, but it hopefully brings them a little peace and quiet.

"We will not forget Walter Lübcke," wrote Laschet.

The Frankfurt Higher Regional Court sentenced the main defendant Stephan Ernst to life imprisonment on Thursday for the murder of CDU politician Lübcke and determined the particular gravity of the guilt.
