Krefeld (dpa / lnw) - The Krefeld Penguins from the German Ice Hockey League have appointed Clark Donatelli as their new head coach.

As always, the penguins did not announce on Thursday how long Donatelli's contract with the currently worst team in the league is endowed.

Due to the current Corona requirements, the 53-year-old American can only join the bottom of the group in the north in a week.

This means that the penguins may have to do without Donatelli in the two NRW duels with the Düsseldorfer EG (February 1st and 5th) and the Iserlohn Roosters (February 3rd).

The Krefeld team, which was only put together at the start of the season in mid-December, was beaten by only one win from eleven games, bottom of the table in the northern season.

Although managing director Sergej Saveljev had already ticked off the current season at the beginning of this week, the Krefeld team had parted ways with their previous coach Mihails Svarinski after nine defeats in the first nine games of the season.

The Rhinelander's new strategy is now to focus primarily on young players.

Saveljev believes that he has found the right man in the former coach of the farm teams of the NHL organization of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

"Right from the start, Clark Donatelli has shown great interest in being part of our concept of training young players who will form the basis for the years to come," said Saveljev.
