• Events: Tension explodes in San Blas due to the increase in violent crimes after the arrival of 'menas' to the neighborhood

The National Police detained at dawn last Wednesday five North African men aged 17, 18 and 19,

accused of wounding a couple with a sword and sticks during a robbery

committed at number 12 of Alberique de San Blas street.

Those arrested have passed through centers for unaccompanied foreign minors (

menas

) and are now sheltered in sheltered flats in the Las Rosas neighborhood.

Union sources indicated that at least two of them have been arrested several times for robberies in the last six months and that several notices for misdeeds committed by these young ex-men have happened again in January.

The events took place around 01:00 on Wednesday.

A couple was assaulted in the doorway near their home by five young people.

According to the Police, the aggressors

were provided with a sword and several sticks with which they attacked the victims.

The 30-year-old boy and the woman suffered several injuries and the theft of several of its effects

.

The screams of the robbed people caused several neighbors to immediately notify the Police.

The police station is on the same street as the robbery, so the agents were able to arrest the criminals when they fled.

The perpetrators of the attack and the assault were arrested with the stolen effects, according to the Police.

The detainees, who had blood on their hands and clothes, will also be proposed for sanction for breaking the curfew dictated in the Community of Madrid.

A sword and several clubs were also seized.

Samur's doctors treated the couple.

They suffered minor cuts and bruises, according to a spokeswoman for Emergencias Madrid.

Last October occurred in the neighborhood of San Blas aggression of

menas

and former menas against a young neighborhood.

As a result of the attack,

the residents took to the streets to ask for the transfer of the

menas

whom they blamed for the increase in crime in the area.

The protests were encouraged by neo-Nazi groups that led the spontaneous demonstrations against minors in which they came to surround the sheltered flats where minors reside and young people who leave the mineral centers when they reach the age of majority.

Anti-fascist groups also called protests to support the

Menas

and condemn the hunt by neo-Nazi groups against foreign minors.

Also, several entities such as the Immigration and Refugee Aid network

denounced the persecution against the

menas

to the Prosecutor's Office for a possible hate crime

.

They regretted that the minors were harassed and insulted at the door of the sheltered apartments and criticized the xenophobia that reigned in the neighborhood.

The neighbors of the block where the minors in custody are residing explained in their day that the

menas

cause many incidents in the urbanization.

They indicated that they urinate in the portals, carry out violent acts and do not adapt to the norms established in the neighborhood community.

They pointed out that

only last year they reported 50 altercations by these Maghreb minors and youths to the National Police.

They also regretted that the educators of the foundation that manages these floors do not attend to their claims and that they do not deal with the most conflictive minors.

The residents said that

it was not a problem of xenophobia but of citizen insecurity.
