Bamberg (dpa / lby) - For years, the city of Bamberg is said to have transferred inadmissible bonus payments to employees - now it is promising clarification.

In a special meeting this Thursday (2.30 p.m.), the audit committee wants to present the first results of the financial scandal.

According to a report by the Bavarian Municipal Auditing Association, around half a million euros were transferred from 2011 to 2017 without any legal basis.

The public prosecutor's office is investigating suspected infidelity.

"A concrete accused does not result from the current file situation," emphasized a spokesman for the public prosecutor.

But even after the bonus payments were discontinued, more inadmissible funds could have flowed to the employees, fears the CSU parliamentary group in the Bamberg city council.

"It's about 450 euro jobs and consulting contracts with subsidiaries," said parliamentary group leader Peter Neller.

"I find it all outrageous."

Three city councilors from Volt, ÖDP and Bamberger Mitte called on Mayor Andreas Starke (SPD) on Sunday to let his offices rest for the time being.

"That is outrageous, a purely populist campaign," countered the SPD parliamentary group leader Klaus Stieringer.

The SPD has therefore ended its cooperation with the critics, who now form a new parliamentary group.

“There are probably a lot of scandals that could be uncovered - but that's not one,” stressed Stieringer.

The allegations could all be clarified in the special session.

"The administration will take a position," announced the chairman of the audit committee, Wolfgang Grader from the Greens.

Everything should be clarified by the end of February.

The investigations of the public prosecutor's office will, according to their own statements, "still take a long time to complete".
