Würzburg (dpa / lby) - The election of the 65th Franconian wine queen is postponed again for months due to the corona.

The decision should actually be made on March 12th.

But because an event with hundreds of guests will then be neither possible nor responsible, potential applicants for the office still have to be patient.

The goal is to hold the election by the end of June at the latest, said the managing director of the Franconian Winegrowing Association, Hermann Schmitt, in Würzburg.

There was no election in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The four applicants who actually wanted to get the crown last spring can compete again this year.

But there will be a new invitation to tender for other interested parties, said Schmitt.

The "Main-Post" reported on this.

The incumbent wine queen Carolin Meyer from Castell (Kitzingen district) remains in office until a successor is elected.

The decision is traditionally made by a jury made up of representatives from viticulture, politics, business, the media and tourism.

The winner represents the winemakers and their viticulture - usually for twelve months.

Weinkönigin is a full-time job with more than 400 appointments a year at home and abroad.
