Frankfurt / Main (dpa) - A candidacy for the office of president in the German Olympic Sports Confederation is not excluded for table tennis world president Thomas Weikert.

"At the moment I am ITTF boss, and this year I would like to be re-elected," said the 59-year-old lawyer from Limburg in an interview with the German press agency.

“On the other hand, let's say it is an office that can be irritating.

I don't want to rule that out. "

Weikert was brought into play two years ago as a candidate for the presidency of the DOSB because some leading associations were not satisfied with the incumbent Alfons Hörmann.

“In some cases, I have different opinions than Mr. Hörmann, this was explicitly the case in the area of anti-doping.

For a long time I had missed a clear line there, ”explained Weikert, who is an advocate of the anti-doping law.

"I had little contact with Mr. Hörmann recently, but I think our relationship is pacified," he said.

Before taking over the office of ITTF President, Weikert was at the head of the German Table Tennis Association from 2005 to 2015.
