Frankfurt / Main (dpa) - The acquittal in the Lübcke trial for a knife attack on an Iraqi refugee has been sharply criticized by the victim's lawyer.

The Frankfurt Higher Regional Court (OLG) did not deal sufficiently with the questions raised by the secondary prosecution, said lawyer Alexander Hoffmann on Thursday after the verdict was pronounced in front of journalists.

The reasoning was not convincing.

«My client is angry.

And I mean, he's rightly angry too, "said Hoffmann.

The main defendant in the trial for the murder of CDU politician Walter Lübcke was sentenced to life imprisonment on Thursday.

Stephan Ernst was acquitted of the charge of stabbing an Iraqi refugee from behind in 2016 and seriously injuring him.

"There are circumstances that indicate the perpetrator, but no solid evidence," said the presiding judge Thomas Sagebiel.

Lawyer Hoffmann said that a decision will be made in the next few days whether to take action against the judgment.

According to the court, the judgment was expected to be in itself.

It is bitter that the court did not deal with the problems that he had addressed - for example the alleged murder weapon and a receipt that was considered exonerating.

Further research would have been necessary here.

"The court gave the impression that they were waiting for something that can be used to save a considerably longer hearing of evidence to close the bag."

Hoffmann criticized that the verdict had been rattled down at insane speed and that it was hardly understandable.

“That is not the way in which a judgment about what should really be accepted should be pronounced.

I find that extremely problematic. "

His client had a statement read out.

"I am very sad because I had to experience betrayal for the second time in Germany," it said.

The police and the court did not perform their duties properly and did not treat him with respect.
