The AfD party has officially dissolved the so-called "wing" - an unofficial association of the most radical and leading politicians at the far right.

The "grand piano" is branded as right-wing extremist

Among others, Björn Höcke who leads the party in the state of Thuringia and Andreas Kalbitz who previously led the party in Brandburg, but who has now been expelled because he was previously part of a right-wing extremist party.

Constitutional protection had labeled the entire "wing" as right-wing extremist.

But since several from the now disbanded "wing" are still monitored by the Constitutional Protection after statements they have made or contacts they have had with extremists on the far right, they drag the entire party's state branch under the security loop if elected to leading positions.

This happened last week with the AfD in Saxony-Anhalt, which recently elected a new chairman who is under supervision.

- We are the only constitutional protection in Germany, Hans-Thomas Tillschneider said immediately after he was elected.

Pointed out as the biggest threat

During the autumn, the German government pointed out growing right-wing extremism as the biggest threat to the rule of law and presented a major package of measures with changes to the law and billions before Christmas.

Last year, two right-wing extremist organizations were banned.

So far, the national party AfD is only considered a trial case by the Constitutional Protection.

Unlike the party's three state branches known as suspected cases, the authorities are only allowed to monitor open sources in the national party.

That is, speeches, published writings and interviews with party representatives.
