Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) - In the infidelity trial against the suspended Lord Mayor of Homburg, the eagerly awaited verdict is to be passed today before the Saarbrücken regional court.

For more than two years, the "detective affair" around Rüdiger Schneidewind (SPD) has occupied the courts.

The public prosecutor's office has demanded 9 months probation plus payment of 10,000 euros for a non-profit organization;

Schneidewind (52) was sentenced to 15 months probation by the regional court in the first instance in February 2019.

However, the judgment was overturned by the Federal Court of Justice.

According to the then regional court chamber, the mayor had employees of the building depot monitored in 2015 in order to uncover an alleged “wood mafia” - without informing the city council.

The detective agency had billed the city around 328,000 euros.

Schneidewind was only authorized to place an independent contract up to 25,000 euros.
