The United Arab Emirates provided urgent humanitarian aid to those affected by the earthquake that struck Sulawesi island recently in Indonesia.

This initiative comes within the framework of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and the follow-up of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in the Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent Authority, to support the affected and provide urgent relief to them.

The Emirates Red Crescent Authority began implementing the directives of the wise leadership, as it prepared an ambitious relief program in which large quantities of shelter, food, health and other essential needs would be provided, and for thousands of people affected in the areas most affected by the repercussions of the disaster.

The authority completed its field arrangements and coordination procedures with the country's embassy in Jakarta and the competent Indonesian authorities, to provide assistance at a speed that keeps pace with the scale of the disaster, meets the needs of those affected and contributes to improving their conditions and alleviating their suffering.

And the delegation of the authority arrived in Indonesia to supervise the relief operations and deliver the humanitarian needs of those affected in the various regions of the affected island.

The Secretary-General of the Emirates Red Crescent Authority, Dr. Muhammad Ateeq Al Falahi, affirmed that the wise leadership is always keen to enhance the UAE's humanitarian and development role regionally and globally, and to provide assistance to the needy and those affected by various disasters.

He said that the Emirates Red Crescent Authority under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan is always ready to quickly intervene in such crises and emergency disasters, noting that His Highness’s continuous directives to strengthen the authority’s capabilities in the areas of relief and emergency response have qualified the authority to occupy advanced positions among the donor associations and organizations. For humanitarian and development aid.

He added, "This rapid move by the UAE and its wise leadership towards those affected by the earthquake in Indonesia, embodies the vital and influential role of the state in enhancing response to humanitarian issues that plague human societies around the world, and places it at the forefront of countries that harness their capabilities to mitigate the damage caused by disasters. Through its rapid and strong intervention in favor of the affected people on humanitarian grounds, without any other considerations. "

The Secretary-General of the Emirates Red Crescent stated that the UAE aid program to Indonesia was prepared, based on field reports and humanitarian appeals received from there, and takes into account urgent and actual needs at the current stage.

Al-Falahi emphasized that the authority has been present on the Indonesian scene since the early 1990s, and its office in Jakarta is one of the first offices to be opened at the regional and international levels, so it is constantly informed about the situation.

The humanitarian community is there, and is working in coordination with the competent authorities, to provide the best services to those affected by the recent earthquake and alleviate their humanitarian suffering, and it will be near it until their ordeal is cleared.

It is noteworthy that an earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale hit the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia recently, resulting in heavy rains, which caused the flooding of the Kariung Pis River.

The water flooded many areas on the island and led to the displacement of thousands of families from their homes, in addition to the collapse of a large number of homes, hospitals, schools and other service facilities.
