Mainz / Frankfurt (dpa) - Even in the second round of collective bargaining for around 380,000 employees in the central metal and electrical industry, no agreement was found.

After the talks on Wednesday in Mainz, IG Metall accused employers of ducking away, although the demand for four percent more money had been known for many weeks.

Negotiations are being held for the states of Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland.

The next round is scheduled for February 18, 2021.

Warning strikes are only possible after the peace obligation has expired from March 1st.

It was particularly annoying that employers kept repeating that nothing could be distributed, said IG Metall district chief Jörg Köhlinger.

Since the beginning of the Corona crisis, distribution has been made in favor of companies.

"Holding hands, using short-time work and announcing layoffs in return, the employees will certainly not accept that."

The employer’s negotiator, Johannes Heger, demanded planning security, flexibility and protection against cost increases for the company.

"IG Metall's demand for more money and less work does not fit into this time."

The corona-related production slump of around 15 percent last year can no longer be made up in the current year.

"Pay growth needs economic growth - and that is missing in our companies."
