Schwerin (dpa / mv) - Retailers from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania can now submit applications for the so-called market presence premium.

This involves a one-time lump sum of 5000 euros, which can be used for advertising or setting up an online shop, as the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Chambers of Commerce and Industry (IHK) announced on Wednesday in Schwerin.

«Due to the corona, more purchases are being made online instead of stationary.

With the new market presence premium, we want to support the stationary retail trade, ”said Economics Minister Harry Glawe (CDU) in a statement.

Especially dealers with current seasonal goods and dealers in tourism regions face particular problems, emphasized the IHK.

According to the ministry, companies and self-employed persons from the stationary retail sector with headquarters in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania who made at least 70 percent less sales than in the same period of the previous year as a result of the corona-related closings in November and December 2020 are eligible to apply.

The applications can therefore be submitted to the state funding institute by March 31st.

According to the ministry, around 52,000 people in the north-east work in the industry, and more than eight billion euros are generated annually.

The retail trade is the second largest economic sector in the state after the health sector.
