Berlin (dpa / sn) - In Saxony, people in need of care have to pay an average of 1642 euros out of their own pocket for a place in the nursing home.
This is based on data from the Association of Substitute Funds (vdek) as of January 1st.
That was 21 euros more than in July of last year and 363 euros more than at the beginning of 2019. However, Saxony is still below the national average of 2068 euros per month.
In a comparison of the federal states, the most expensive home places remain in North Rhine-Westphalia with an average of 2460 euros.
In contrast, the burden in Saxony-Anhalt is lowest at 1,465 euros.
On the one hand, the sums include the co-payment for pure care and support.
Because, unlike health insurance, long-term care insurance only bears part of the costs.
For home residents, there are also costs for accommodation, meals and investments in the facilities.
The co-payment for pure care alone rose to a national average of 831 euros per month, after it was 786 euros on July 1, 2020.
In Saxony, this value rose from 595 to 672 euros over the same period.

The honorary chairman of the Association of Substitute Funds (vdek), Uwe Klemens, called on the federal states to assume the investment costs for the care facilities in order to relieve those in need of care.
The 100 euros proposed by Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) were not enough.
They did not even cover a quarter of the national average investment costs of 458 euros that people in need of care would have to pay per month.
