Berlin (dpa / sa) - People in need of care have to pay more and more themselves for care in the home - in Saxony-Anhalt, however, the sum is lower than in the other federal states.

On a national average, the own contributions rose to 1,465 euros, as can be seen from data from the Association of Substitute Funds (vdek) as of January 1st.

That was 29 euros more than in July of last year and 247 euros more than at the beginning of 2019. This means that home places in this country are on average the cheapest.

Home places remain the most expensive in North Rhine-Westphalia with own contributions averaging 2460 euros.

The national average at the beginning of the year was 2068 euros per month.

On the one hand, the sums include the co-payment for pure care and support.

Because, unlike health insurance, long-term care insurance only bears part of the costs.

For home residents, there are also costs for accommodation, meals and investments in the facilities.

The co-payment for pure care alone rose to a national average of 831 euros per month, after it was 786 euros on July 1, 2020.

In Saxony-Anhalt this value rose from 560 to 580 euros over the same period.

The honorary chairman of the Association of Substitute Funds (vdek), Uwe Klemens, called on the federal states to assume the investment costs for the care facilities in order to relieve those in need of care.

The 100 euros proposed by Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) were not enough.

They did not even cover a quarter of the national average investment costs of 458 euros that people in need of care would have to pay per month.
