Hamburg (dpa) - Moderator and emergency paramedic Tobi Schlegl (43) wants to bring curios, extreme, difficult and vital things from the rescue service to the listener with a new podcast.

With the podcast “2Retter1Mikro”, the journalist gets colleagues in front of the microphone and talks to them about everyday working life and their worries and needs at work.

“This is something new in this form.

I have never heard that discussions are held on an equal footing and that one can really immerse oneself in the closed world, ”Schlegl told the German Press Agency in Hamburg.

The fact that there is a need for discussion and that the ambulance and nursing services absolutely need a platform was already clear to him when he was writing his first novel “Shock Room”.

The podcast, which appears every two weeks, is supposed to cover many aspects of the everyday work of paramedics and nurses.

“We also talk about what needs to be improved and changed socially and politically.

Above all, nothing is communicated about the enormous shortage of personnel in the rescue service. "

Something would have to change massively, otherwise emergency care would be at risk in the future.

That's why the podcast should also be light and relaxed: “We want to get excited about the job.

Because we urgently need good and new staff.

The working conditions are tough and tough, but the job itself is absolutely great. "

Being able to be part of a lifesaver is very fulfilling.

That is why his guests will also present funny, emotional and exciting things about their job.

In addition, Schlegl is implementing a heartfelt wish with the podcast: people should have the courage to be able to provide first aid.

«First aid is very poor in the population.

That's why I'm trying an experiment.

For the first time ever, hearing first aid is available.

So you have to turn on your head cinema. "

In the first episode, which should be available free of charge on all podcast platforms from Thursday morning, Schlegl talks to the intensive care worker Matthias.

He works on a corona station, also drives ambulances and also fights for better working conditions.

"He's the most ideal guest," and many more colleagues are to follow.

A podcast date with Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) has already been arranged.

Schlegl (“Aspects”, “Extra3”) quit his job almost five years ago and trained as an emergency paramedic for three years.

Since his debut, which appeared in the summer, he has become the "ambulance class representative".

"But I hope that there will be many more who will follow and support me."
