The proposal is based on a requirement from the National Union of Teachers and the Swedish Teachers' Union.

This will apply as long as the Public Health Agency deems that the pandemic is ongoing, the Moderates in Malmö write in a press release.

Decisions on the issue have not yet been made in the upper secondary school board, where the issue will not be addressed until Friday.

According to political secretary Aron Regnéll (M), Malmö is the first municipality in the country to make decisions about free mouth protection for pupils and school staff.

The opposition pushed through the proposal

The proposal was voted through by the Moderates, the Center Party, the Sweden Democrats, the Green Party and the Left Party. The Social Democrats and Liberals voted against the proposal.
