January 27, 2021 The Supreme Court has confirmed the sentence to life imprisonment for the dermatologist Matteo Cagnoni (55) for having beaten his wife - with the aggravating circumstance of premeditation and cruelty - his wife Giulia Ballestri, aged 39, who wanted to separate from him.
The victim - the mother of their three minor children - was left agonizing in the dark.
The crime took place in Ravenna on September 16, 2016 in a long-uninhabited family villa.
The judges of the first section of the Supreme Court rejected the appeal presented by the defense of the accused as requested by the deputy attorney general at the end of the indictment. thus confirming the sentence of the man to life imprisonment in the first instance in June 2018 by the Court of Assizes of Ravenna, sentence then confirmed in September 2019 by the Court of Assizes of Appeal of Bologna.
