Mainz (dpa / lrs) - According to the Rhineland-Palatinate data protection officer Dieter Kugelmann, the social media app “Clubhouse” is very likely to violate the European General Data Protection Regulation.

"According to initial findings, the US app is extremely problematic from a data protection perspective," said Kugelmann on Wednesday in Mainz.

In the past few days, several state politicians had announced that they were using the application for discussions.

When using Clubhouse, users are required to “make the contact data stored on their device available to other people without them having to consent,” explained Kugelmann.

In addition, it is in no way transparent which data the app stores permanently, such as recordings of conversations, and how these will be used in the future.

"As a user, you don't know what exactly is going to happen with the data."

He could only recommend people in Rhineland-Palatinate not to download the app and not to use it.

Clubhouse is a social media app from the USA that users can use to participate in panel discussions.

You can also deny access to the address book when registering.
