January 27, 2021 - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the country will close all land borders due to the spread of coronavirus variants. Netanyahu said this at the World Economic Forum in Davos, after Israel previously closed Ben Gurion Airport to commercial flights to and from the country.

Statistically, it is "a matter of time before there is a variant of the coronavirus against which vaccines do not work", which is why Israel has completely closed commercial flights and borders, the Israeli premier explained, stressing that between the time when the new variants spread and the one in which they are detected passes time, and the closures serve to create a "window" in which to vaccinate millions of people.
